Economic requirements for the non-lucrative visa

Economic Requirements for the Non-Lucrative Visa

The non-lucrative visa is an attractive option for foreigners who wish to reside in Spain without the intention of working. However, one of the most relevant aspects of obtaining this type of visa is the economic requirements that must be met. In this article, we will break down the necessary details to understand these requirements.

What is the Non-Lucrative Visa?

The non-lucrative visa allows foreigners to reside in Spain for a period exceeding 90 days without engaging in any work or professional activities. This type of visa is intended for individuals who have sufficient financial means to support themselves during their stay in the country.

Economic Requirements

The economic requirements for obtaining the non-lucrative visa are strict and aim to ensure that the applicant can cover their expenses during their residency in Spain. Below are the main criteria:

1. Minimum Required Income

Applicants must demonstrate that they have sufficient income for their sustenance and that of their family members, if included in the application. Starting in 2023, the minimum threshold is set at:

  • 100% of the Public Indicator of Multiple Effects Income (IPREM): For the main applicant, a minimum income of approximately 600 euros per month is required.
  • 200% of the IPREM: For each additional family member to be included in the application, approximately 1,200 euros per month are required.

2. Necessary Documentation

To verify economic capacity, several documents must be presented, which may include:

  • Bank statements showing balances and transactions.
  • Employment contracts or income from rentals, if applicable.
  • Tax returns reflecting the applicant's financial situation.
  • Documents evidencing investments or savings.

3. Sufficient Savings

In addition to monthly income, it is necessary to demonstrate that one has savings. The minimum amount required is equivalent to:

  • 12 monthly payments of the IPREM: This means that the applicant must have approximately 7,200 euros available for the main applicant and an additional 1,500 euros for each family member.

Final Considerations

It is important to keep in mind that all documents must be translated into Spanish and, in many cases, apostilled or legalized. Meeting the economic requirements is crucial for the approval of the non-lucrative visa.

If you are considering applying for this visa, make sure you have all documents in order and meet the economic requirements established by Spanish immigration law.
